As we head into March, many are looking forward to Spring and Summer, with vision of beaches and sun in their heads – but you don’t have to wait until warm weather to get outside and enjoy yourself! Winter activities abound in our section of the state – get away from it all while enjoying exercise and that rosy glow on your cheeks from being in the crisp winter cool! Angel Welcome Bed & Breakfast is a great “home base” for fun day trips all around the lovely part of Ohio.
Right here in Milan, the Towpath MetroPark is a wonderful .9 mile trail, rich with history, that runs through the site of a Moravian Indian mission village, along the path of the Milan Canal and Railway. It’s perfect for snowshoeing in the winter and hiking when the snow is gone. Recent renovations to the bridge debuted in October 2022. Open 8am to dusk, it’s only a 10 minute walk from the B&B.
If you are a more energetic cross-country skier, you’ll find many places right around the inn to get your exercise. The aforementioned Towpath Metropark is a great place to start, but if you’d like a longer outing, head over to Castalia, only 20 minutes by car, to the Castalia Quarry Metropark. The quarry closed in 1965, opening up 152 acres for outdoor lovers. This park has several trails including one along the old quarry rim, and includes restrooms.
Bonus: if you’re reading this in January, you still have a brief chance for a unique ice-skating experience at Sandusky’s Jackson Street Pier. Made of synthetic ice, the rink is over 4100 square feet and provides a smooth surface for skating. Skate rental is $5, or bring your own and skate for free.
