The Culinary Vegetable Institute is a treasure in our little village. The mission of the CVI is, “The Culinary Vegetable Institute provides the world’s most innovative
chefs with a place to share knowledge, experiment and discover
techniques for growing and preparing the most flavorful varieties of
vegetables in the world. The collaboration between the garden farmer and
the chef and between the old and the new is the foundation of the
Culinary Vegetable Institute”.
This wonderful organization provides lectures and sessions to an area of Northern Ohio which is usually not on the schedule for major speakers and chefs. Some of the upcoming events at the CVI include:
Lecture and 5 Course Plant Based Meal (January 30th, 2016 – 5:30pm) – presented by Dr. Caldwell B Esselstyn, collaborator in the documentary “Forks Over Knives”, author of “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” and over 150 scientific articles. Dr. Esselstyn is a very well-known surgeon who promotes a plant based diet to arrest and prevent heart disease. Cost is $120 plus tax – Includes the lecture series and dinner. Books will be available for purchase.
Chinese New Year (February 6, 2016 – 6:30pm) – Celebrate the Chinese New Year with an eight-course meal representing good fortune,
longevity, humility and abundance. Dishes will include Communal Hot Pot, Buddha’s Delight, Mandarin
Orange Surprise and more. Cost is $108.00 plus tax.
Two sweet Valentine’s Day events are in the offing at CVI – An Evening of Perfect Pairings on February 13th ay 6:30pm- playful twists on classic pairings such as peas and carrots and coffee and donuts. Cost is $120 plus tax. On the Big Day itself, from 2-5pm, take part in: Sweets for the Sweet – Uncovering Chocolate, a cooking class taught by Chef Jamie Simpson. Cost is $70 plus tax.
